These are the first new pieces for my upcoming art show at Little Red Coffee – check em out! These pennants were created to highlight some of the places in the city with the most historical significance.
The Point Abino Light Tower is one of the prettiest lighthouses I’ve ever seen, was the last to be automated in Ontario, and is a National Historic Site of Canada. It’s also at the end of a privately owned road, so I could only take a pic in front of the no access sign. Be sure to ask me in person what I think of that!
Old Fort Erie is the spot from which the town takes its name, and its critical role in the War of 1812 cannot be understated. Thankfully the idea of war between Canada and the US is something we never need to think of again. It’s now maintained by Niagara Parks who do a wonderful job keeping the history alive.
Lastly, the Fort Erie Race, which is the home of the annual Prince of Wales Stakes – the second jewel in Canada’s Triple Crown for horse racing. I will admit, I don’t know much about horse racing, but Wikipedia tells me that the 1991 Prince of Wales Stakes winner (and subsequent Triple Crown winner) was a horse named Dance Smartly, who is hailed as the best horse to race at the track. Who am I to disagree!
