More Fort Erie Flags

The last batch of Fort Erie felt! Two flags – one for Crescent Park, based off of the gates at the entry to the neighbourhood, and one for Matty Matheson Meat + 3, which was a highlight of the world shutting down back in 2020.

When my wife and I first moved to Fort Erie, our only friends in the city lived in Crescent Park, so we passed by these gates on a regular basis. This flag features crescent moon and blacklettering featured on the left gate, plus the lantern that hangs below it which, I’ve been informed, has been recently restored to illuminate at night. A truly beautiful sight and a truly beautiful site.

The other flag commemorates a pop-up takeout spot that got me driving back to Fort Erie on a regular basis even after we’d moved out of the town. Thankfully, given the state of the world back in May 2020, I had a lot more time than usual to make the trek. Starting out as a weekly, pre-order only BBQ joint, this Matty Matheson and Kendale Products restaurant was a constant source of great food and momentary distraction from everything else going on. After a few weeks, it turned into a walk-up restaurant, and after a couple years, it closed down, but what a time it was when it was still running. I still dream about the tater tots.
