For Christmas this year, my good friend Heather commissioned me to make some travel posters of Malaysia for her husband (and my friend) Phil. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity. This is the second in the series – the Langkawi Archipelago, Malaysia. As I’ve never been to Malaysia, and I can’t really hop in my car and take my own reference photos, I relied on photos I found online to get a feel for each location. In searching Langkawi, I was immediately drawn to the beautiful turquoise waters and the giant statue of an eagle. I chose to make the sky orange and add an orange tint to everything except the water to make it pop even more.
I designed custom typography for each poster. For this one, I wanted to do a fancy script design, and as I added swooshes and loops, the layout for the Archipelago and Malaysia text fell into place. Swipe through for a closer look at the poster and the type.
