For Christmas this year, my good friend Heather commissioned me to make some travel posters of Malaysia for her husband (and my friend) Phil. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity. This is the first in the series – the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I illustrated the buildings first, and put a pink background behind them mostly for contrast while I was working. But I loved the colours so much, I decided to stick with them. Throw in some huge puffy clouds, and flock of Milky Storks flying between the towers, and I was done. This was probably the most simple of the three, but I love it for that.
I designed custom typography for each poster. For this one, I wanted the letterforms to be tall and narrow – like the buildings themselves – but added in some perfectly round Os to ad a little bit of visual interest. Swipe through for a closer look at the poster and the type.
