My favourite music of 2022 – Finale!
All the live music I saw this year
Live music was back in 2022, and I (cautiously) took part in a lot of it. Every concert has its own pennant, and a lot of them had albums this year as well. Here’s the full list:
Sloan – dropped Steady this year, and it is a killer album! Smooth, 60s text for the greatest power pop band of all time.
Billy Talent – Part of the incredible 4 day concert series in St. Catharines – Born & Raised. Goddamn what a good set. Ragged letters for shredding guitars and screeching vocals.
Alexisonfire – Absolutely blew the (non-existent) roof off Montebello Park. Ink bleed and DIY looking letters for your favourite band’s favourite band.
Pup – The Unraveling of Puptheband is a killer album, and the theme of the corporatization of a band that runs throughout is represented by this pennant. Enjoy refreshing Pup™
Ginger Root – One of the coolest live shows I’ve ever been to. Live broadcasting the show from an over-the-shoulder VHS camera to CRT screens throughout the venue. Rad. Many of the album’s videos dealt with Cameron becoming a commercial spokesperson. I could see this wordmark being used to sell some stuff.
Dream Theater – Longtime darlings of the progressive metal scene, I wanted to capture the far out themes of their lyrics with a suitable design. I landed on this – a pseudo-ambigram of Dream Theater. One direction it reads “Dream T” and the other it reads “heater”
Cory Wong – Cory is an unstoppable musical force. Wong’s Cafe was a standout for me this year. Cory rocks, and that’s what this pennant is meant to represent.
They Might be Giants – Once again, my top artist of 2022. Love you, John, John, Dan, Danny and Marty. Quirky lettering for a quirky band.
Alvvays – Blue Rev: rules. Live show: incredible. Wavy and ethereal letters for a band that embodies it.
Gob – Sick show, and a sickly looking pennant for a gross-out band.
That’s all, folks! Thanks for coming along for the ride. Here’s to more good music in 2023!
