New poster series: Retro St. Catharines!
Poster #6 – St. Catharines City Hall
This is it! The 6th and final location specific poster in my retro St. Catharines series. Here’s the beautiful St. Catharines City Hall in all its glory. While the building and landscaping is mostly symmetrical in real life, I decided to go all in with the symmetry on this one.
The front facade of STC City Hall is currently under construction, so I used my reference photo along with some photos online to try and get the design right. And of course, I had to include the most perfectly manicured lawn in the whole city in the design. Big ups to the grounds crew at City Hall!
So, why did I choose to go fully symmetrical in this one? Well, you may have noticed in my other posters that the sun is rising, or setting, or in the case of the Brock poster, gone and replaced by the moon. The idea of this whole series was to show a day in St. Catharines across 6 posters. So this one takes place at high noon, with the sun perfectly centred in the sky. With the building already being mostly symmetrical, I thought it would make sense to just lean in to it. Let me know what you think!
Now, I’m no master of politics, but I believe City Hall is where the mayor lives. Just finishes their work at their desk, rolls out a cot, and sleeps til the next day. It’s not the most glamorous job, but public service is a noble pursuit.
